What You’ll Be Doing
Our instructors are healthy role models for each client out in the field. You will live, eat and work together as a group, and also help process and guide clients to more appropriate decisions in their life. While in the outdoors, you will teach outdoor living skills (building shelters, preparing food, making fires), use problem solving techniques to maneuver through environmental challenges, and lead daily personal reflective time, journaling, and meditation activities. You will also have the opportunity to help structure and mold both the program and organization. You will be the catalyst to help keep things fresh, keep each goal in sight, and provide different perspectives to a growing program.
So that you may develop professionally and truly learn about the wilderness therapy field, a 6-12 month commitment works best. If you cannot commit to this time frame, seasonal and/or other timeframe commitments are open for consideration. You will work an 8-day-on, 6-day-off shift, with staff change each Tuesday.
Our therapists are clinical intervention providers to each client in the field. You will live, eat and work together within a group, and also utilize NVW’s clinical models for clients to assess current situations in their life and provide constructive instruction in how to move forward. While in the outdoors, you will be involved with all processes of clinical intake, case management, individual and group therapy, post-trip clinical summaries and all related paperwork. You will also have the opportunity to help structure and mold both the program and organization. You will be an important team member who helps to keep things fresh, and provide different perspectives to a growing program.
Full time and Part time positions are available. Therapists most commonly work 3 days in the field and 2 days in the office, but alterations are common pending casework.
Our programs operate year round and we happily embrace all four seasons to the fullest. With these two awesome locations, and major cities within two hours away, you’ll have plenty of options of city life and wilderness life.
